The wonderful South African musician and recording artist popularly known as ShaunMusiq unleashes this amazing bop titled Thonga
Thatohatsi has been posting some incredible statistics lately, reaching over 140 million streams globally on Spotify. That kind of momentum makes his appearance on this track seem like a major thing. It’s a pairing that’s not random since ShaunMusiq and Mphoet have worked together before.
The beat is built on the famous ShaunMusiq formula: warm piano melodies over deep wood drums. It is all calm and gradual, never hurrying to a peak too soon. That patient build has almost become his signature at this point.
ShaunMusiq takes a laid-back approach here with his voice, letting the instrumental do much of the talking. He’s never been the kind to overrun a music vocally, more about fitting into the groove. That constraint saves “Thonga” from feeling crowded and keeps it together.
