Zambian “Groovebreaker” Chills Kalampa enlists Chef 187 and Wezi on a pleasant new tune, “Nisunge,” out via Fresh Boy Music and Groove Breakers.
The title translates as “Protect Me” or “Hold Me” in Bemba. So from the outset, the emotional path is evident. But Chills Kalampa does not allow the idea to take root. He crafts a record around it that gets you to feel it, doesn’t simply say it.
Producer Tonny Breezy kicks off the track with a slick Afro-pop/hip-hop hybrid groove. It keeps warm but doesn’t get soft. So when Chef 187 kicks in with his distinctive rap delivery, the instrumental already has a ton of space for the lyrics to breathe. His thought-provoking lyricism lends weight to the personal narrative of the song without taking away from its emotional centre.
Wezi is the third ingredient and, arguably, the one that links it all together. Her passionate voice is the emotional pinnacle of “Nisunge”. Because rap and afro-pop duets always seem to be lopsided, one usually squeezing the other. There’s a clear sequencing here, and each performer falls into their own right spot.
The album also premiered exclusively on Power TV Zambia, reaching DStv and GOtv viewers across the region. That kind of launch shows this is not simply a streaming drop — this is a full rollout with real industry backing.
For Zambian music enthusiasts, “Nisunge” is a bold stride forward from Chills Kalampa. It demonstrates that he knows just which people to call when the vision is clear.
