Zambian rapper Dove Dee joins forces with Goddy Zambia on a mindful new single named “Blame Me,” produced by Pouli G and Mix Machine.
This is a rarity in Zambian hip-hop today. Instead of pointing fingers outward, Dove Dee aims the lens inward. “Blame Me” is based on real-life stories of six distinct people — all in terrible situations due to their own choices. So the writing has heft because it is rooted in individuals and not ideas.
Pouli G and Mix Machine merge conscious rap and melodious Afro-pop below. But the production never overstates the message. Instead, it’s warm enough to keep the record approachable while letting Dove Dee have room to provide his most meaningful verses. Because a record this deliberate requires some space – and the beat provides that space.
Goddy Zambia’s soulful vocal delivery anchors the melodic structure of “Blame Me.” His addition raises the album from a pure rap statement to something more textured. But neither artist loses their personality to complement the other. The chemistry seems organic, not put together.
The accompanying song video, directed by Dir Diego Clement of Visual Plug, further enhances the release. Visual storytelling around such a sensitive topic demands attention — and the release implies both artists knew what the song needed beyond the audio.
“Blame Me” is well timed for Zambia’s rising audience of conscious music fans.
