Maganga askandi sound Thishela teams up with Slungile for a soulful new tune, “Ngethemba Umdali” from his album “Ischaka Esiziqhenyayo”.
Just the title gives a hint of faith and confidence, a departure from some of the more cutting cuts on this project. Maganga has demonstrated a lot of flexibility throughout the record, going between confrontation and reflection with ease. This record is leaning heavily on the latter.
Maganga Thishela – Ngethemba Umdali’s production holds the original Maskandi guitar sounds solid and pleasant. The arrangement remains mild, in keeping with the optimistic tone of the lyrics. Nothing is rushed here and that patience fits the meaning of the song. That comes through without ever feeling forced.
As an entire record, “Ngethemba Umdali” works because both artists lean into truth rather than spectacle. The result is honest from beginning to end.
This track is a great banger and should be on every playlist.
