Well known talented Ghanaian hip-hop star, Able KW, has released a raw new solo single, “No Drugs”.
This one is well outside the usual party mix, Able KW making his stake with a serious attitude and a message. The title itself is a position, and that clarity carries through the entire record. Ghana’s hip-hop scene has always found space for performers that lead with conviction and this record matches that lineage.
The production maintains minimalist, boom-bap leaning, with strong drums and minimal frills, no shine. Nothing here is in competition with the bars for attention. The beat holds back, so Able KW’s voice carries most of the weight of the record.
He delivers in a straightforward, no-nonsense manner, preferring a bit of plain talk to metaphor-heavy wordplay. He doesn’t sugar coat the message and that bluntness is what gives the song it’s edge. Therefore, “No Drugs” is more a personal position than a moral sermon.
