South African sensation Tyla unleashes playful new album cut named “KISS,” off her sophomore CD A*POP.
Tyla – KISS is part of a 14-track album on July 24, and is featured with tracks including “That Girl,” “Is It Love,” and “Chanel.” Tyla has been leaning into pop territory this album cycle while staying true to her South African origins. So “KISS” is another element of that larger, more mature sound picture.
The production embraces slick, current pop instruments, constructed with radio appeal in mind. There is no hurry, no crowding here. The arrangement stays uncluttered, which allows plenty of room for Tyla’s vocal tone to convey the song’s flirty spirit. The song has no need for a detailed backstory to make its point. So even if you have just one listen you get the feeling.
Overall, “KISS” works because it fits so well into A*POP’s greater pop-forward trajectory. Nothing on the record feels like a diversion from what Tyla is developing this era. The uniformity helps to give the record a feeling of cohesion.
