South African sensation Tyla unleashes her new album cut, “MR. NONCHALANT,” off her sophomore CD A*POP.
This one is early on the 14-track album, due July 24 on FAX/Epic Records. The record, which Tyla has characterized as almost feeling like a journal entry, created during evenings out and karaoke sessions in locations across the world. “MR. NONCHALANT” has that lived-in, fun vitality that runs through the rest of the project.
The production is very much uptempo, pop-forward instrumentation, crafted with confidence in mind, not restraint. Nothing here pulls punches for subtlety. The arrangement stays bold, so Tyla’s attitude gets to take the record from the first beat.
Her delivery is as sharp and confident as ever, introducing herself with the kind of swagger that’s defined this album era. She does not wait to be chased but takes charge of the story. That confidence has become one of the more obvious strands flowing through A*POP.
Lyrically, “MR. NONCHALANT” is playful desire and complete ownership over the situation, treating attraction as something she’s already set her mind to. The tone is still playful, not vulnerable. The emotion is therefore evident without spelling out.
